Turkey Run

Turkey Run
  • Distance: 4 Miles
  • Place: 6th
  • Time: 21:43 (5:26 per mile)

This race has become a family favorite tradition, being our 4th year in a row participating. It was the first year we had bad weather too! And there was a ton of snow. I warmed up by running from the house to the race and by the time I got there, my jacket was getting pretty wet.

I went into this race with a bad hip. I went to the chiropractor several times and couldn't get it fixed. It's been hurting a lot for the last 3-4 weeks now. [EDIT]: I went through 12 weeks of deep tissue massage and Structural Integration and my hip got better!

I wasn't running much leading up to this race due to my hip troubles, so I was very happy with the results. I just took it calm and steady. Turned out to go very well and just as I had thought I could do.

Post Race

After the race, the kids got hot cocoa and played in the gym while I cooled down. It started snowing so much that by the time I was done with my 20-minute cooldown, my jacket was covered in a quarter inch of icy snow!

We had some fun together :)

Funny thing is, I didn't get a turkey this year. I would have by my place, but I wasn't in the results. I think I messed things up by running through their finish line while warming up. I think it wiped my chip number as if I'd already completed a race. We didn't want to wait another hour to work it out at the awards ceremony so we went home and started on making our Thanksgiving dinner. But we sure had fun overall!

I use my Garmin watch to track my races and then they get uploaded to Strava for sharing.
